Dancer FAQs

Dancers' Questions and Answers

If you cannot find answers to your questions please do not hesitate to send us an email.

What is Dance Response?

Dance Response is a unique matching system which helps connect dancers and schools. It is simple to use and provides an effective way for dancers to advertise their work to schools without wasting time and resources contacting schools individually.

It will also enable dancers and organisations to advertise events and courses to a key market easily and effectively.

How do I register?

Registering is simple. Go to the calling all dancers section and follow the instructions. You will need to submit your CRB and Public Liability insurance details for verification. You will also be asked for contact details for a referee and to answer the following questions:

  • Why do you teach dance in schools?
  • What will you help pupils to learn, understand and do?
  • How will you do this?

There will be space to provide more information about the precise dance style/s you use.

How much does it cost to register with Dance Response

At the moment dancers can register for a special introductory annual fee of £35.

What payment methods do you accept?

We currently accept Visa, MasterCard and Maestro/Switch through the Google Checkout interface. If you prefer to pay by cheque or bank transfer, please contact us by email and we can arrange this for you.

What if my dance style does not appear on the list?

The dance style menu is to provide teachers with some basic information about the various styles which dancers may use in their workshops. The styles identified individually are the ones most frequently asked for by schools. If your style is included under an umbrella title such as Folk dance – European, or South Asian dance please select this in the list of styles, but explain more fully the particular style/styles which you use in the 'Personal Description' section of your registration.

Are there any restrictions on where I can teach?

You decide where you want to teach by stating the number of miles that you are willing to travel as a one-way trip. You can travel as far, or a little, as suits you.

What happens when a school wants to book me?

When a teacher requests you to work in their school, you will be sent an email and free text (SMS) message notifying you of this. When you log into your account, you can see an outline of the work offer and can choose to accept or decline the work. If you accept the work offer, you will be sent full contact details for the school.

Please note: In order for us to provide a prompt and reliable service if you have not logged into your account within 24 hours of receiving the information our system will automatically decline the booking request and pass the work to another dancer.

Do I have to pay for the text messages that I receive?

No, they are included in your membership fee.

What if I am on a long term project and not available for schools to book me?

If you are on tour, or taking part in a longer term project simply click the 'Pause Account' button on your account page. When you are available for work again simply repeat the process to re-activate your account.

How do I delete my profile?

You can remove your profile from our website's search results temporarily, by clicking the 'Pause Account' button on your account page. If you would like your profile removed permanently please contact us.

Why is there a school rating system for the dancers?

Teachers trust the recommendations of other teachers. The rating system is part of our quality assurance system. All ratings will be manually verified by Dance Response staff before they are placed on the site.

How do I get paid?

You will be paid on receipt of an invoice for any work which you have undertaken. Dance Response will have a record of all bookings made by schools and will make payment once your invoice has been checked against this record. You can be paid via BACS or cheque.

What about paying tax?

It remains your responsibility to declare any income earned through Dance Response and pay any relevant taxes as a self employed dancer.
